How to Really, Really, Help your Dyslexic Child
A practical, hands-on online course for Parents
The face-to-face course I planned in 2020 to show parents how to really, really help their dyslexic child had to be put on hold but it has made me realise that I can reach many more parents of struggling young people, now that the course will be online.
In this ground-breaking course, I will share my secrets on how to turn your struggling child into a confident, self-assured learner by making ‘learning’ fun again and setting them on that path to becoming a confident reader, speller, and writer.
I will guide you through every step on the way, explaining to you why your child struggles with some things and showing you practical, hands-on ways of working with your child. The course comes with a complete kit with everything you will need, plus there will be additional e-mail and telephone support if required.
Numbers on each course will be limited to only 10 participants, so the whole experience can be on a more personal level. There is also another option for a parent who feels that working with me on a 1:1 basis, rather than in a group, would offer them a more individualised experience.
Jacqui Flisher – our Dyslexia Specialist
I have been contacted by many parents who have found themselves having to ‘home school’ their child(ren) and are now realising just how much their child is struggling with schoolwork and the effect this is having on their self-esteem and mental health, especially when there is the added pressure that children are now expected to ‘catch-up’ on their learning.
As a parent you may feel that you are not qualified or powerless to help your child; not knowing what to do for the best to provide the help your child so desperately needs.
Can I assure you this is absolutely not true!
As a parent, how will this course help me to help my child?
It will give you the skills and knowledge to:
- Understand why your child learns in a different way and why they struggle to do certain things.
- Recognise the effects of visual stress and why this can make reading difficult and provide the solution to stop this happening.
- Help your child to stop worrying and learn how to be in control of their dyslexia.
- How to overcome their ‘fear ‘of reading, so they can start that journey to becoming a fluent and confident reader.
- Be able to spell and remember how to spell any word, quickly and easily.
- Improve their speed of processing and sequencing skills, using games.
- Get their thoughts down on paper.
- How to make learning ‘fun’ again.
Who is this course for?
- Parents who really want to help their bright, creative and imaginative child who continues to fall behind at school.
- Children and young people who struggle to read at an age-appropriate level.
- Individuals who find that phonics makes the process of learning to read so much harder.
- Anyone who struggles to spell and remember how to spell words.
- Learners who have problems with sequencing and speed of processing information.
- Highly imaginative individuals who can tell you exactly what they want to say but struggle to get those same thoughts down on paper.
- Young people who have low self-esteem and have lost confidence in their abilities.
- Anyone who dislikes rote learning and wants to put the ‘fun’ back into learning.
This course is definitely NOT for:
- Parents who are confident their child’s school will put help in place.
- Learners who learn to read using phonics.
- Individuals with little or no imagination.
- People who enjoy rote learning, e.g. chalk and talk.
